The Nurse Supervisor - Ward Manager of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a key member of the hospital clinical management team whose primary role is to oversee and manage the nursing care provided in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Has 24/7 responsibility for the clinical care of babies and operation of the units, manages Enrolled Nurses, Assistant Nursing Officers, and Nursing Officers.

Plans, directs and coordinates Critical Care to premature and sick newborns and support to the parents. Sets and carries out policies, goals, and procedures for the department and evaluates the quality of the staff’s work. Develops reports and budgets for their Unit. Assures that the needs of the patients and doctors in the NICU and associated areas are met, resulting in excellent outcomes. Serves as Shift Supervisor as assigned. The incumbent will ensure transparency in all matters pertaining to facility.


Education and Experience profile:

  • B.Sc. Degree in Nursing or equivalent, from a recognized Institution/University essential
  • Registered with the Uganda Nurses & Midwives Council
  • Post Basic Diploma in Neonatal Nursing essential
  • Certified in BCLS, NRP
  • Minimum eight (8) years as Registered Nurse in NICU
  • At least two (2) years as Nursing Officer
