Community Nurse – Refugee Health Integration

Location: Invercargill

FTE: 0.4

 

As a Community Nurse in the Refugee Health Integration Team, you will support Former Refugees who have resettled in the WellSouth area. The people you will work with are from a variety of cultures, ethnicities and circumstances that have led them to enter New Zealand under the Quota Refugee Program (predominantly). 

 

About the role:

Within this role you will provide nursing triage, assessments and interventions to Former Refugees, the Refugee Integration Team, internal WellSouth Teams and the organisations that work with these individuals and families. This includes, but is not limited to,  Te Ahuru Mowai o Aotearoa – Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, settlement providers, Primary Health Care Services and General Practices, Secondary Health Services, Community Agencies, Government Agencies and Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora.

 

The Registered Nurse will work within their scope of practice and be professionally accountable for providing patient-focussed, culturally appropriate and individualised holistic care to patients alongside our diverse team.

 

To be successful in this role:

  • Minimum of 3-4 years’ experience in primary healthcare or another relevant role.
  • Current APC with the Nursing Council of New Zealand and rights to work as a Registered Nurse in New Zealand.
  • Awareness and understanding of the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi to WellSouth as a public health organisation.
  • Ability to deal with unexpected situations and crises while maintaining a professional manner.
  • Computer literate with MS Office suite
  • Well-developed relationship building and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written, oral communication and report writing skills.
  • Strong triage, assessment, co-ordination and organisational skills to attend to a broad range of nursing activities and interventions.
  • Caring and non-judgmental approach to patient care with a commitment to equity delivery.
  • High levels of personal initiative and ability to work autonomously whilst focusing on health care outcomes.
  • Although not a requirement, experience working with families from culturally diverse backgrounds would be an advantage.
