The Nursery Operations Assistant Manager will play a key role in supporting the Operations Manager with a variety of responsibilities that ensure the smooth and efficient functioning of the nursery. Your priority is providing high quality customer service and leading by example.  This position involves supervising field teams, managing nursery moisture levels, assisting customers, handling inventory, monitoring plant quality, and building relationships with stakeholders.  You live & share your passion for genuine hospitality in your commitments. You must have a high level of attention to detail, be committed to ensuring accuracy, and be able to manage competing priorities and multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

As part of the Leadership team, you will assist the Nursery Manager with personnel decisions and corrective actions, including recruiting, hiring, coaching and development of your team.  Additionally, you will assist with determining types and quantities of horticultural plants to be purchased, based on budgets, projected sales volumes or executive directives.  You will build and manage relationships with key suppliers and customers to maintain quality of goods, timely delivery and compliance with the organization’s terms and conditions.

You will review inventory levels regularly and adjust pricing as needed to sell through seasonal products in a timely manner. You will oversee the delivery of material and direct the placement of plant material on the sales floor.  You will coordinate plant orders and deliveries for customers and daily crew loadouts.  If there are potential supply disruptions, you will communicate to the parties it will affect and provide alternative options.  Administratively, you will assist in ensuring pricing/invoicing accuracy. 

You will learn how to consistently uphold and ensure compliance with departmental procedures, including standards for quality, timing, attendance, appearance. You follow and ensure all Sea Island safety protocols are consistently met. You maintain situational awareness of your surroundings, keeping an eye on all areas for tidiness and any general maintenance issues, ensuring that all are corrected or reported immediately.  You enthusiastically maintain your knowledge of Sea Island’s properties, services, and offerings, and share this information with guests and members. You are generous with your support and help resolve any service issues that arise in a timely and positive way, following up as needed. You are proactive in aiding when needed and are willing to help with other areas or duties as requested.  You will grow relationships with other resort departments to maintain open communication channels to anticipate and exceed any stakeholders needs and requests.

Job Requirements 

  • Experience in retail nursery (preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture or Botany (preferred)
  • Advanced knowledge of plant materials and installation procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and office equipment
  • Physical strength and stamina to perform a primarily outdoor role, maintain ongoing, prolonged physical activity throughout a scheduled day to include lifting 50+ pounds, working indoors and outdoors in varying weather, comfort with noise levels, electrical, chemical, and fume hazards with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to kneel, squat, climb, stand, sit, balance, reach, stretch, bend, push, pull, and walk for prolonged periods
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal
  • Valid Georgia driver’s license, and maintain all Sea Island driver requirements
